The Elder Scrolls Online is the newest multiplayer addition to the extremely popular Elder Scrolls series by Bethesda.

The gaming world is abuzz and expectations are high as millions wait for the massively-multiplayer-online-role-playing-game (MMORPG) from Bethesda gaming. Surely, it will be difficult to follow the tremendous success of The Elder Scroll Online’s predecessor: Skyrim. The single player title that was 2012’s game of the year. However, with an extremely ambitious new trailer, “The Arrival”, we can expect big things from the first multiplayer game to find its way into the Elder Scrolls series.

The trailer looks absolutely stunning. It displays a myriad of promising combat features, including magic, and the soundtrack creates a suspenseful and exciting atmosphere as we watch a dramatic battle take place in the ever raging war against Oblivion.  The darkened landscape, the foe’s armours and the truly terrifying beast are reminiscent of Tolkein’s fantastical world, while the portal with tentacular chains creates a Lovecraftian vibe. It’s a feast for the eyes.

“The Arrival” gives us a lot to look forward to; the question, now, is whether or not Bethesda can deliver even half of what they’ve promised in their cinematic trailer. That’s the bottom line isn’t it? So often have we been promised so much from illustrious action packed trailers that the end result is a disappointing shadow of its cinematic counterpart (think Dead Island). Still, I for one have faith in the good people at Bethesda to release a game that is perhaps not as captivating as the trailer promises, yet still is a great addition to one of my favourite game series: The Elder Scrolls.

Are you looking forward to the MMORPG as much as I am? Leave a comment below with your answer.
