xbox360-troubleshootingWe’re all social (very social) beings and probably we have by now a huge, lengthy list of friends in Windows Live Messenger. But you probably also love using the Xbox 360 you own, and you were thinking about using Windows Live Messenger on Xbox 360. Wondering if that’s possible? Yes, it is and we’re here to let you know how Microsoft allows you to set up and use Windows Live Messenger on Xbox 360. So read the tutorial and you’ll be up and running in no time!

You can associate your Windows Live ID with the Xbox Live account and use the Messenger. To do so:

1. Go the Xbox LIVE area of the Xbox Dashboard.
2. Select Chat and IM.
3. Select the Messenger tab.
4. Select Continue.
5. Select Sign Up for Messenger. The Windows Live Messenger welcome screen appears. (Please note: If you sign up for Messenger on Xbox LIVE, your gamertag will be visible to your Windows Live Messenger contacts.)
6. Select Continue. The Windows Live ID field automatically populates with the Windows Live ID that’s associated with your Xbox LIVE account.
7. Type your password and select Done.
8. Select Save Password or Don’t Save.
9. Select Continue.

If you have Windows Live Messenger contacts who also have signed up for Messenger on Xbox LIVE but are not already on your Xbox friends list, a list appears with contacts who you can invite to become Xbox LIVE friends.

The tough part is done, now sign in to Messenger! You can do so by opening the Xbox Guide or going to the Xbox LIVE area of the Xbox Dashboard and selecting Chat and IM. Auto sign-in to Messenger on Xbox 360 is enabled by default, but first:

1. Go the Xbox LIVE area of the Xbox Dashboard.
2. Select Chat and IM.
3. Select the Messenger tab.
4. Select Sign In to Messenger. You will automatically be signed in to Windows Live with the Windows Live ID associated with your Xbox LIVE account.

(Your password is saved on the Xbox 360 console when you set up Windows Live Messenger. If you want to change your password or remove it from the console, see Modify Your Billing/Personal Information)
