Games Company Wants Adult Game Industry

It was just a couple of days ago when I said that there are not enough games for adults in the industry and it appears that D-Dub Software, a company dedicated to developing titles that would make GTA’s Hot Coffee mod look like an innocent angel, has the same opinion. They also have a plan to bring adults games to play.

The company complains that not only the ESRB stays in the way, but the console manufacturers, too since neither Microsoft nor Sony or Nintendo don’t seem to happy about licensing explicit games intended for adults only (and the companies might have their point here since we all know it’s pretty easy for a kid to play an M rated game). However, D-Dub Software wants to market their games and let people decide, not other companies, if such games should exist or not.

D-Dub’s CEO said to QJ: “It doesn’t make sense. The ratings boards are not telling us that these games aren’t for kids. We know that already. What they’re telling us is that adult games shouldn’t exist at all. We don’t agree, and neither does our customer base of adults who are interested in games that might include themes like sex, drugs, and language. Since they’ve made it so that games like ours can’t be marketed and distributed through the channels other video games use, we are starting a new industry to get this game out to our customers.”

And I do agree that these games should exist. I doubt anybody is actually against them. The only problem arises from the fact that kids could still get their hands on such games and play them. So we’ll keep our eyes open and see if D-Dub has a solution for that problem (and, of course, in the meanwhile we’ll check what game projects they have – we can’t miss that, can we?)
