Eidos Montreal has confirmed that they are working on a new Deus Ex game for next gen consoles and PC.

The news came from a blog post on their site by Studio Head David Anfossi, and confirmed that most of the team who worked on Human Revolution are working on this new game, something which Anfossi was keen to make happen. He said: “It took us four years to learn how to create a unique Deus Ex experience with Human Revolution and it was important for me to keep this knowledge within the franchise.”

Eidos treated fans with a piece of concept art, showing their hopes for the setting of the upcoming game.  It focuses on the ‘trans-human segregation’ and a ‘ghetto city’ which has been built to separate the classes.

The game, which has been called Deus Ex: Universe, is said to be an “ambitious idea” which Eidos wants to “create an on-going, expanding and connected game world built across a generation of core games.” Anfossi went on to say he wants to “deliver meaningful content that expands the franchise on a regular basis and deliver a deep conspiracy that will span several connected Deus Ex games.”

The post claims that the Deus Ex: Universe concept will be expanding beyond this next gen game, and will be involving other forms of media such as tablets, smartphones and books.

This isn’t the first time Deus Ex has tried stretching into other media, having already released IOS game Deus Ex: The Fall and the novel Deus Ex: Icarus Effect.

The game is in the very early stages of development, but I for one am very excited about this announcement.
