Electronic Arts (EA) finally released new details regarding its next-generation action RPG, Dragon Age 3 Inquisition. The third game of the Dragon Age series received a web page and an official trailer, revealing part of the upcoming story line. Inquisition is scheduled to be released on Fall 2014. As revealed before, Inquisition will feature the ruthless war between mages and templars. The world is at chaos and there seems to be no end to it. EA and BioWare promise a ‘story-driven open world’, where decisions will change the future of Thedas:

In this upcoming video game from BioWare, makers of Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age: Origins, you’ll make your mark in an expansive, story-driven open world filled with complex characters, challenging combat and difficult decisions.

Analyzing Dragon Age 3: Inquisition Trailer, The Fires Above

This brief trailer exposes a destroyed Thedas, decimated by conflict. The world is divided into two factions and peace is nothing but an illusion in the horizon. As opposing forces, mages and templars battle each other, seeking for power and dominance over the other. Freedom is the ultimate purpose worth anything for the mage faction, it’s time to break free and leave the chains behind. For templars, magic is seen as a curse and every holder of this malign power must be contained. Both forces are able to unleash hell upon the living world, however mages usually resort to blood magic and summoning demons seems to be their favorite hobby. It’s more than obvious that Thedas will obliterate itself, if both sides don’t find a suitable agreement. The only one able to restore balance to a ruined land is the inquisitor, as EA stated:

It falls to you to restore order as you lead the Inquisition and hunt down the agents of chaos – your choices will forever change the Dragon Age.

The return of old characters will be enigmatic. Varric will most likely come back, as well as Seeker Cassandra, they both appear int he video. This trailer is guided by Morrigan, a leading character in Dragon Age: Origins. Her return will surely impact the storyline of this third game. Perhaps, her now born child bearing the dragon insignia will be the key to save Thedas from itself. The trailer closes with a strong, yet challenging question, where Morrigan makes her position very clear, she is a mage and will die one, she also believes victory is inevitably on mages’ side. Fighting this faction will only lead into further chaos:

Darkness closes in. Will you stand against it or lead this world to its bitter end?
