Best Cheap Gaming Laptop in 2014: Under $1,000

Even though the pretty expensive Steam Machines have just been detailed and priced, we still believe that gaming on the cheapo is a solution, so we’ve decided to take a look on Amazon and share with you the best cheap gaming laptops for 2014: gaming laptops that you can purchase for less than $1,000 bucks. And even though you won’t get the same juicing power as you would normally get from a gaming desktop PC, these laptops all have an Intel Core i7 processor under the hood and some overall nice specs to keep you gaming.

So, without further ado, here are the best gaming laptops in 2014 (under $1,000 – with the last 4 being the ones we wholeheartedly recommend if you can go really close to the $1,000 bar):

ASUS X750JA-DB71

02 Asus laptop gaming

I hope you’re not surprised to see another Asus gaming laptop here, because they’re really a solid brand and a perfect choice for gaming laptops that are cheap. This little fellow is not little at all: has a 17.3 Inch screen size and a max screen resolution of 1600 x 900, to make all your games look better. And if you check out what’s under the hood, you will be pleased to find a great 2.4 GHz Core i7-4700HQ processor, 8 GB of RAM and 1 TB of hard disc space. Now we’re talking, so click here to check out the product on Amazon.

Acer Aspire V3-771G-9809

03 acer gaming

We’ll stay in the “A” zone here, but change the following letters a bit. The Acer Aspire V3-771G is a cheap laptop that can be used for gaming, powered by a Intel Core i7-3632QM processor and impressing those with a good eye for detail with a 17.3 Inch screen. It also has the best graphics card so far, a NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M that will make sure that even the latest games can run smoothly on your laptop. This one’s a real gem, really, and you can find out more about it over at Amazon.

Toshiba Satellite S75

04 toshiba sattelite

I’ve read mixed reviews of the Toshiba Satellite laptops and I didn’t personally get the chance to play with them, but if we are to look at the specs alone, this one’s a good option if you are looking for a good cheap gaming laptop. 7.3″ Screen Size, Intel 4th generation Quad Core i7-4700QM 2.4GHz, 16GB Memory, 1TGB Hard Drive… all these are numbers that really matter when you look at the $859.99 discounted price (you save $240.00). So hurry to get this one before it sells out – click here to check it out at Amazon.

MSI GE60

05 msi laptop

Windows 8, a really slick design and some great specs (plus an amazing price) – all these make the MSI GE60 gaming laptop a good choice for those on a budget. Powered by an Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB of RAM and backed up by the sweet NVIDIA Geforce GT 660M, this cheap gaming laptop can be easily used outside since it has an anti glare screen. Check it out at Amazon.com but hurry – there are few left in stock!

HP Envy dv6

06 hp envy

Well now, the name says it all: fellow gamers will envy you for the laptop, not knowing that it was under $1,000! With a third generation 3rd generation Core i7 processor, 8GB RAM and Windows 8 installed, this is a good choice for a gaming laptop, despite its biggest drawback: Intel HD graphics 4000, a graphics card that does no justice to the “Envy” thing and makes next gen gaming on maximum levels impossible. Still a good price, so check out this laptop here.

ASUS X750JB-DB71

07 asus gaming

Now we’re really starting to get REAL quality here and if you have the money to go over $900 (but still under $1,000) this is where the list should start for you. And it starts with an Asus model that has a Intel i7-4700HQ Haswell processor, 8GB of RAM and an impressive 2TB hard disc. Not anything less impressive is the graphics card, the NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M 2GB DDR3 that will make gaming a real breeze on this great laptop. Check it out here and have fun playing anything on it!

Lenovo IdeaPad Z710

08 lenovo ideapad

Lenovo are starting to establish themselves as a great brand for cheap but still high quality products, so it should be no surprise to see them here so high in our list with the Z710 laptop. Not only that the laptop looks great, but the 17.3 Inch screen gets all the juice from a Intel Core i7-4700MQ 2.4 GHz Processor and the VIDIA GeForce GT745M Discrete Graphics Card. With 4 hours of battery life, the Lenovo IdeaPad should no longer be ignored by hardcore gamers! So head over to Amazon to check it out and buy it while it’s still there!

MSI Computer Corp. GP60

09 msi sleek

Although it doesn’t look just as sleek as the other MSI cheap gaming laptop we’ve recommended earlier, it sure packs a more powerful punch. Coming just shy of $1,000, the GP 60 is a 15.6-Inch Laptop with the best processor on this list (the Intel Core i7-4700MQ 3.2 GHz) and a powerful graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M 2G. Full HD resolution is supported and it comes with Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit installed, making it a great option for gaming on the go. Check it out here.

Acer Aspire V3-772G-9829

10 Acer Best

A fourth generation i7 Processor is what powers this little beast, together with 8 GB of RAM and a graphics card that could make many desktop computers cry: NVIDIA GeForce GT 750Mwith 4GB of dedicated DDR3 VRAM. In other words, an amazing choice for a cheap gaming laptop, coming close to $950 at the discounted price available over at Amazon.

So these are our picks for 2014. I hope that you have a great year in gaming and that any of these products you choose prove to be the best choice for you!

  1. Gaming and intel graphics don’t go together, bub

    • They have to go, if you’re on a budget. And there are plenty of other options available here too.

  2. Hello,
Which one of these laptops has the best graphics and frame rate for highly detailed games. I will mainly be playing FIFA but I would also like to be able to play games such as Battlefield 4 with the best possible detail. Which of the above laptops would be best suited to helping me achieve that?
    Thanks

    • Hello Jamo,

You should not expect performances similar to a desktop gaming computer from these laptops. However, the best options are the last two – with the MSI having a slight advantage in terms of processor power, but with the Acer Aspire V3-772G-9829 compensating with its better Graphics card. So I would personally go for the Acer laptop.

  3. Have you seen the y410p and y510p. Each under 1000 dollars straight from lenovo.

  4. Thanks man now I can choose a nice and affordable laptop that I can use for work and to play on my free time :D

  6. I have the Lenovo Y410P as well, I splurged for the $1299 model with an Intel i7 4700MQ processor, an NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 755M, 8 GB RAM, a 1 TB HDD, 24 GB SSD, and the previously mentioned amazing speakers. It can run any game from Minecraft to Bioshock Infinite with maximum FPS. The SSD also allows for fast boot time if you want to put your OS on it. The design is also excellent, it is a dark, matte pattern on the outside with a glossy interior. It also includes a red, backlit keyboard. The only thing I have to complain about the laptop is the heat sink, well, let me explain… The heat sink is actually really great, it pumps out heat like there’s no tomorrow. This is good because it means that the insides are kept at a comfortable temperature while the heat is dispersed through the heat sink and vent. But… I have a habit of gaming or rendering things in GPU/CPU intensive software while laying in bed. This is problematic because it is, no joke, a fire hazard. If you are doing stuff like what I previously mentioned on a mattress that is insulated with sheets and blankets, it will heat it up to dangerously high temperatures, high enough to inhibit you from laying in that spot on your bed. Once again, this isn’t a problem unless you are spending hours doing those CPU/GPU intensive tasks. All in all, I give this laptop a 10/10. Biggest draw back is the price coming in at around $1,299. If you’re familiar with Lenovo, you know they always have a major sale. Currently you can get my exact model for $900. That’s pretty much it, I recommend the laptop to anyone and everyone that is looking for a great laptop.
